- Mary Ellen Schultz, age 71, of Lakewood, WI, passed away peacefully at Aspirus Wausau Hospital Tuesday, Jan. 26, 2010, with her family by her side. Mary was born Oct. 7, 1938, in Green Bay, WI to Lawrence and Hildegard (Heinritz) Bins.
Mary graduated with a bachelor's degree from St. Norbert College in 1960.
She married Les Schultz on Aug. 26, 1961, and they relocated to Amherst in 1966.
Mary started her career as an elementary school teacher. After raising her family, she returned to work for Portage County Social Services. She retired in 2001 as executive director of the Housing Authority of Portage County.Mary was an avid reader and crocheter.
She was an active volunteer with various organizations, including the Christian Thrift Store in Wabeno. She was a member of the Lakes Country Public Library Book Club and the Oconto County Homemakers.The greatest joy of her retirement was her twin granddaughters, Grace and Claire. They were the love of her life. Mary will be sadly missed.
Mary is survived by her husband, Les Schultz, Lakewood;
daughters: Frances Schultz, Madison, WI and Lois (Lowie) Schultz, Merrill, WII;
sons: Mark Schultz, Oxnard, CA and Chris Schultz, Waupaca, WI;
sister Susan (Bill) Johnson, Marinette, WI;
brothers: Bill (Patti) Bins, Houston, Texas and Larry Bins, Atlanta, Ga.;
and two grandchildren, Grace and Claire Schultz, Merrill, WI.
Visitation will be Saturday, Jan. 30, 2010, at St. Mary of The Lakes Catholic Church, Lakewood, from 10 a.m. until noon, with a funeral Mass to follow. The Rev. David Schmidt will be officiating.
