Thomas Mathy age 67 of Appleton, passed away Saturday November 6th, 2004 following a lengthy and courageous battle with colon cancer. He was born on April 2, 1937 in Appleton, WI the son of the late Oliver and Norma (LeMay) Mathy. After graduating from St. Mary’s High school of Menasha in 1955, he was employed by Appleton Mfg. Div. for 44 years retiring in 1999. He served four years in the Army reserve. On June 10, 1967 Tom married Nancy Newhouse. Tom said he was put on this earth to make people happy. He loved to tell jokes and was able to put a stranger at ease. Working on various craft projects with his wife Nancy for the Holy Family Convent in Manitowoc was a favorite pastime of Tom’s. Other pastimes included calling bingo, playing cards, building puzzles and viewing fall’s color. He was a faithful servant of God, caring father, loving husband and brother and loyal friend. Tom lived his life to be where he is now, in the arms of his Savior. Tom is survived by his “dearest darling” Nancy, children Debra Mathy, David Mathy, brother James (Betty) Mathy, sisters: Sister Paul Mathy and Jean (Robert) Greinert. He is further survived by many other family members and numerous friends. The mass of the resurrection will be held on Tuesday, November 9, 2004 at 6:30 PM at St Joseph Catholic Church, 404 W. Lawrence St. in Appleton with Rev. Larry Abler officiating. Visitation will be at the church from 2:00 PM on Tuesday until the time of the Mass. A memorial fund has been established. The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Robert Geller and his wonderful staff for the excellent care, compassion and friendship given to Tom. “Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with me.”
