Newhouse, Gordon
Gordon Newhouse, beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, friend, age 77 of Tucson, AZ, formerly of Appleton, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 21, 2010, in Tucson, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born March 24, 1932, in Freedom, son of the late Raymond and Agnes (Verhoeven) Newhouse. He married Mildred Nelessen on May 12, 1955, in Wrightstown, sharing 54 years together before her death, November 3, 2009.
Before moving to Arizona, Mildred and Gordon were members of St. Paul's Catholic Church, Wrightstown, and then St. Pius X Catholic Church, Appleton. He served with the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Mr. Newhouse retired from farming in 1995. He was an avid bowler, and he enjoyed playing cards, biking, and driving to visit his children and grandchildren in various locations around the country.
Gordy will be dearly missed by his four daughters and two sons-in-law: Karen Newhouse, Tucson, AZ; Julianne Newhouse, Tucson, AZ; Lisa and Rick Brown, Pleasant Hill, CA; Maria and Jeff Virlee, Neenah; three sons and daughters-in-law: Mark and Cheryl Newhouse, Green Bay; Terry and Debbie Newhouse, Prospect, KY; Jay and Meri Newhouse, Bountiful, UT; two brothers and two sisters-in-law: Don and Shirley Newhouse, and Carl and Carol Newhouse; eleven grandchildren: Andrew, Aaron, Ben, Gatlin, Alexis, Jordon and Lincoln Newhouse; Alec and Kate Brown; and Stella and Amelia Virlee.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Ivo, and a sister-in-law, Dort Newhouse.
Mass of the Resurrection will be held 11:30 a.m. Thursday, January 28, 2010, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 E. Marquette St., Appleton, with Rev. Thomas Farrell officiating. Entombment will take place at Allouez Catholic Cemetery, 2121 Riverside Drive, Green Bay. Friends may call at the Brettschneider-Trettin-Lederer Funeral Chapel on Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. and at the church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Memorials may be directed to the American Cancer Society.
