    • Ivan F. Conaway, 101, Lincoln, died Monday (3-14-11). Born (10-15-1909) in Washtucna, Wash. to Ott and Daisy (Bivens) Conaway. Married Merle Rutten on April 27, 1935, they were joined in wedlock for over 70 years.

      Ivan graduated from Comstock High School in 1929. He worked for the CB&Q/BN for 46 years hiring on as a telegraph operator-station agent and finishing the last 23 years as Chief Train Dispatcher for the Lincoln, Omaha, Wymore and parts of the McCook divisions.

      Ivan joined the Masonic Service in 1932, was a member of North Star Lodge #227 and was presented the Bronze Jordan Medal in 2007 as the longest serving lodge member. On December 20, 2010 Ivan was presented the Gold Jordan Medal as the longest serving Mason in Nebraska. He was past patron of Myrtle Chapter #94, O.E.S.

      He was a member of Saint Paul United Methodist Church, Railroad History Association and volunteered for a number of years at Folsom Children's Zoo.

      Ivan enjoyed playing golf into his 90's in nearly all kinds of weather and would never consider taking a cart. The special joy in his life was being able to spend quality time with his grandchildren and corresponding with his many friends and extended family.

      Family members include daughter, son-in-law, Myrna and Lou Donato, Las Vegas; sons, daughters-in-law, William and Suzanne Conaway, Kansas City, Mo., Marvin and Linda Conaway, Lincoln, Ruby Conaway, Virginia Beach, Va.; 12 grandchildren; 31 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by wife, Merle; son, Ivan Jr.; two brothers; three sisters; and two great-granddaughters.

      Prior Interment: 10 a.m. Saturday (3-19-11), Lincoln Memorial Park, 6800 S. 14th St. Everyone meet at Gate #2. Memorial Service: 11 a.m. Saturday, Saint Paul United Methodist Church, 1144 "M" St. Rev. C. Rex Bevins, officiating. Memorials in lieu of flowers to the church, Folsom Children's Zoo or the March of Dimes. Visitation: 1 - 8 p.m. Friday with family greeting friends from 6 - 8 p.m. at Roper and Sons, 4300 "O" St. Arrangements by Roper and Sons Funeral Services.
