    • Lyle L. Tews, age 79, of Fremont, joined the heavenly choir of angels on Friday, October 31, 2008, at the Weyauwega Health Care Center. He was born on September 21, 1929, in the Town of Caledonia, the son of the late Lorenz and Frieda (Fuhrmann) Tews. On July 15, 1961, Lyle was united in marriage to Shirley Springstroh at Riverview Lutheran Church in Appleton. Lyle farmed his entire life in the Town of Caledonia. He was a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church in the Town of Caledonia where he served on the church council in several offices, namely finance committee chairman, treasurer, elder, and served on the building committee. He was also a member of the Lutherans Laymen League. Lyle's interest and love of music was evident by his many years in Zion's choir. He also sang in the choir while attending New London High School. He participated in the FFA while in high school and was a member of their quartet that went to National competition in Kansas City. All who knew Lyle were aware of his keen interest in cars and trucks, especially GM models. His knowledge of the makes and their available accessories was impeccable. Lyle loved to read and travel. He planned many trips that he and Shirley enjoyed over the years.

Lyle is survived by his wife, Shirley, a son, Todd (Lois), Fremont, and their daughters, Olivia and Sydney, a sister, Lois (Walter) Hoewisch, Greenville, a brother, Rollin "Jim" (Diana) Tews, New London, two brothers-in-law, Roland (Diana) Springstroh, Lexington, NC, and Wayne (Candace) Springstroh, Appleton, five nephews and five nieces, other relatives and friends.

Lyle was preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Herbert and Ella Springstroh.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, November 3, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, E9016 Marsh Road in the Town of Caledonia. Rev. Doug Reinders will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call on Sunday at the Lewin Funeral Home, Fremont, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service. A memorial fund has been established for Zion Lutheran Church.

Lyle's family would like to extend a special Thank You to the Weyauwega Health Care Center for their compassion and care during Lyle's stay.
