Martin J. Vander Zanden, Sr. formerly of 442 Roger St. Combined Locks. died on Tuesday, Dec
. 26, 1995, after suffering with cancer for twelve months.
He was born on Nov. 19, 1906, in Little Chute, the son of Peter and Petronella (Van Dyke) Van
der Zanden. On May 26, 1930, he married Marie H. Van Beek at St. Joseph Catholic Church in On
eida. martin and Marie lived in Kimberly and Darboy, and farmed in Shiocton for 12 years befo
re moving to Combined Locks in 1961. martin retired from Consolidated Papers Interlake Mill i
n 1969.
He enjoyed gardening and fishing. Martin was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church, Combined L
ocks.
Marie preceded him in death on Sept. 22, 1972. In 1974 he married Sally Liebergen.
He is also survived by nine sons and 10 daughters-in-law, Marty and Vivian of Custer; John an
d Dorothy, Thomas and Carla, all of Appleton; Sherry Vander Zanden of Crawfordville, FL., Ra
y and Joyce of Channahon, IL, Kenneth and Luanne of Little Chute; Robert and Barbara of Monte
rey, Mexico, Eugene and Joan, Donald and Linda, all of Kaukauna, Richard and Kathy of Darboy
; four daughters and son-in-law, Ann and Boniface Kempen of Hollandtown; Mary and Harvey Fens
ke of Fremont; Nell and Donald Ries of Greenville, Patricia and Frederick Techlin of Freedom
; 65 grandchildren; 71 great grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Martha Vander Zanden of Applet
on.
He is further survived by his first wife's brothers, sisters and in-laws, John and Dorothy Va
n Beek of St. Clair Shores, MI; Leonard and Bonnie Van Beek of Frassher, MI; Harriet Van Ryt
e of Santa Fe, Springs, CA; Catherine Fulton of Fairbanks, AK Richard Dietzen of Appleton an
d Ann Van Beek of Hobart, IN
Along with his parents and his first wife, Martin was preceded in death by a son, Lawrence; t
wo grandsons; two great granddaughters, his siblings and their spouses, Jeanette and Ed Lappe
n, Antonette and Ernie Gusman, Ann Vander Zanden, Christine and Frank Finnegan, Josephine an
d Frank Schedgick, Nellie and Leonard Landwehr, William Vander Zanden, Mary and Art Hamiester
, Rosalie Vander Zanden; a sister in law, Helen Dietzen and a brother-in-law, Henry Van Beek
The funeral services will be held at 10;30 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Catholic Church, Combine
d Locks, with the Rev. Robert Vandenberg officiating. Burial will be in St. Paul Cemetery.
