      Sunday, May 8, 1994

      Mary Frances 'Fran' Growt, 65, 713 N. Washington St., De Pere, died Friday, May 6, 1994 at a local hospital. Fran was born May 23, 1929 in Green Bay to her late parents, Paul James and Katherine Elizabeth [Vandenberg] Van Laanen. Fran married her husband, John Growt, July 12, 1952, at St. Marys Church at Green Bay. She graduated from Ripon College in 1951 with a Bachelor's degree in English. Fran was a board member for the De Pere School District for 20 years, currently serving as president. She was secretary-treasurer of the Abbey Belles Garden Club and a Service League member, and past president of the Oneida Golf and Riding Club Ladies Org. Fran was very active and envolved in community activities and affairs.

      Survivors include her husband John, her children and their spouses; Jim and Sheila Growt, De Pere; Tracy and Rick DeBly, De Pere; Thomas and Lori Growt, Allouez; Kate and Scott Janssen, Green Bay; four grandchildren; Lyndzi, Hannah, Glennie and Murphy; sister in-law; Rita Van Laanen, De Pere; brother in-law and his spouse; David and Audrey Growt of Onalaska, Wisconsin; five nieces and one nephew; Vici, Paul, Lisa and Liz Van Laanen and Melissa and Kimberly Growt; father in-law and mother in-law; Glenn and Ruth Growt of LaCrosse.

      She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Francis J. Van Laanen. Friends may call at the Ryan Funeral Home 305 N. 10th St. De Pere, from 4 to 9 p.m. Monday and from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Catholic Church, DePere. Wake service at 8 p.m. Monday. Funeral 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the church with the Rev. Anthony Dolski officiating. Burial in the Allouez Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established for a scholarship for De Pere High School.
