Little Chute
Age 83, passed away Thursday, January 17, 2002, at Parkside Care Center with his family by his side. The son of the late Martin M. and Mary (Van Domelen) Van Gompel, Richard was born September 10, 1918 in Little Chute. He married Dolores Zornow on July 8, 1943. Rich worked at Badger Northland, Kaukauna for 23 years and retired in 1981. He served four years in the 82nd Airborne Division during World War II. He loved music and played the accordion in several bands throughout his life. He also sang in a barbershop quartet for many years. He was a member of St. John Catholic Church, Little Chute the American Legion Jacob Coppus Post, Little Chute and the VFW.
Richard is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dolores two daughters: Barbara (Jerry "Pat") Elliott Lisa Van Gompel (friend Theo Andersen) three sons: Steven (fiancee Phyllis Paul), Carl (Barbara) and Mark (Pam) 12 grandchildren: Julie (Alan) Huss, Craig (Sue) Elliott, Matthew (Jamie) Elliott, Gail (Jon) Steidl, Abby, Luke, Pete, Ben, Sara, Christine, Jacob and Kala Van Gompel four great-grandchildren: Amy, Tonya and Joseph Huss, and Aubrey Steidl a brother, Elmer (Joyce) Van Gompel sisters: Verona Gloudemans and Angeline Schroeder sisters-in-law: Vera Van Grinsven, Jane Revoir, Harriet and Ruth Van Gompel and brother-in-law, Marrinus Wyngaard. Rich was preceded in death by his parents brothers: Martin Jr., Edward, Arthur, Henry, Clarence and Gerald sisters: Rose Plach, Mayme Huss, Grace Fletcher, Lucille Wyngaard brothers-in-law: Theodore Gloudemans, Thomas Zornow, John Dictus, Henry Van Grinsven, Don Revoir, John Plach, Oscar Huss sisters-in-law: Dena and Adis Van Gompel and Dolores Zornow.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 3 p.m. Friday, January 25, 2002 at St. John Church, Little Chute with Rev. Msgr. James Vanden Hogen officiating. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established in his name.
The family would like to thank the staff at Parkside Care Center for their care and compassion for Richard.
