- Steven Gerald Captain, 54, of Whitehall, MT (formerly of Appleton, WI) died Saturday, March 3, 2012 from a long and courageous battle with melanoma with family at his side.
He was born to Gerald and Delores Captain on April 7th, 1957. Steve graduated from Appleton West High School in 1975. He married Ann Millard in 1979. They had 2 wonderful children, Beau and Katie. Steve received a Certificate of Apprenticeship from Fox Valley Technical Institute in 1982 in bricklaying and stone masonry. He worked for various masonry companies before working as a mason for Kimberly-Clark Corporation in 1985.
In 1992, Steve and his family moved to Oregon where he worked for Kraft Masonry until he started his own masonry company.
Then in 2005, Steve and Ann moved to Idaho for yet another adventure; working for Wilderness Outfitters in the back country of the Frank Church Wilderness. Steve was a hunting guide and Ann was camp cook. It was one of Steve's most memorable and happy times. In 2006, they moved to Whitehall where Steve continued his masonry business. He was a good hand; a jack of all trades and master of one-masonry. From Wisconsin to Oregon, his quality work is found on residential and commercial buildings alike. Steve's real passion in life was the outdoors, specifically hunting and fishing. It was second only to his love of his family and friends. Most importantly, Steve loved and appreciated life itself and he lived his to the fullest extent. He was truly "livin' the dream."
