    • Verhagen, Howard G. (22 May 1918 - 1 April 1965)

      Two separate notices - Mrs. Ronald Kitzhaber of Greenwood received word informing her of the death of her father, Howard Verhagen, 47, of Lake Villa, Ill., formerly of Willard. He died April 1 at the St. Theresa Hospital in Waukegan, Ill., following a heart attack, which he suffered on March 28.

      Mr. Verhagen is survived by his wife; three daughters, Miss Cheryl Verhagen, at home, Mrs. Ronald (Bonnie) Kitzhaber of Greenwood and Mrs. Howard (Virgie) Opal of Waukegan, Ill.; two sons, Gene and Gary of Lake Villa, Ill.; and by four grandchildren.

      Funeral services were held April 3, in Lake Villa and burial was made there. Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Kitzhaber attended. Their sons, Nickolas, Randall and Michael were cared for at the Mike Klapatauskas home in Willard, during their parentsÂ’ absence.

      Former Willard, Chili Man dies - Funeral services were held in the Prince of Peace Catholic Church, with a requiem high mass at 11 a.m. at Lake Villa, Ill, for Howard G. Verhagen.

      Mr. Verhagen was born May 22, 1918, in Chili. He received his education there and lived in the Chili area for eight years after his marriage to Vera Steltenpohl, and then moved onto a farm near Willard, where they lived for 10 years. In 1957 they moved to Lake Villa, Ill. He was employed at Johnson Motors as a die caster in Waukegan, Ill.

      Survivors are: his wife; three daughters, Mrs. Ronald (Bonnie) Kitzhaber of Greenwood, Mrs. Howard (Virginia) Opal of Waukegan, Ill.; and Cheryl, at home; two sons, Gene of Round Lake, Ill., and Gary of Waukegan, Ill.; five grandchildren; seven sisters, Mrs. Richard (Harriett) Downer of Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Clarence (Ella) Livingston of Ray, Ind., Mrs. Roland (Marie) Braun, Waukegan, Ill., Mrs. Roy (Louise) Lindow of Spencer, Mrs. William (Bertha) Nebel of Lake Villa, Ill., Mrs. Edwin (Frances) Fait of Wisconsin Rapids, and Mrs. Edward (Mable) Selk of Spencer, and a brother, Louis Verhagen of Forest Grove, Ore.
