- Katherine "Mary" Schuh Evans, 90, Appleton, died Feb. 12, 2012, at Peabody Manor in Appleton. Katherine was born in Appleton, on April 14, 1921, the daughter of the late Therese and Matt Schuh.
She attended Rosary College in River Forest, Ill., graduating in 1943 with a Bachelor's degree in Library Science. Katherine then worked as a Librarian at the Great Lakes Naval Base in Waukegan, Ill., where she met her husband, Jim Evans, who was a stationed there with the Navy. They were married on July 13, 1946, and moved to Appleton.
Katherine raised five children and volunteered at St. Mary's Grade School, where she also ran the school library. A devoted wife and mother, she loved books, needlepoint and knitting, and was an avid bridge player. She also was a long-time member of the Laetare Book Club.
She leaves her children, Steve (Mary) Evans, John (Mary) Evans, Ellen (David) Rogers, Martha (Austin) Boyle, and Jim (Mary) Evans; nine grandchildren, Matt (Wendy), Patrick, and Alex Evans, Aaron (Tana), Justin (Jessica), and Brea Evans, Katherine Boyle, and Laura and Elizabeth Eichsteadt; and six great-grandchildren, Evie, Marina and Ellie Evans, Mason and Hudson Evans, and Jack Evans.
Katherine was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, James Lloyd Evans; her sisters, Jeanette Schuh Langlois and Virginia Schuh Grasse; her brother, William Schuh; and her grandson, Daniel Evans.
A family service was held at St. Mary Catholic Church in Appleton, on Wednesday, Feb. 15.
