- Servais, Robert (Red) Anton
Robert (Red) Anton Servais, 95 (of Green Bay, WI) passed away on March 1, 2016. Robert was born on June 17, 1920 in Green Bay, WI to Joseph and Josephine Servais. The family farm was located on Ridge Road and he attended West High School and graduated in 1938. He graduated from St. Norbert, with a Chemistry degree in 1948.
Red joined the Army Air Corp (AAC) January 12, 1942 and took pilot training at Randolph Air Base in San Antonio, Texas. He graduated, Class of 42X, as a 2nd Lieutenant in the AAC. After graduation he remained at the training center for 1 year as an advanced training instructor. Later he flew in the China, Burma, India theater. Red completed 79 tours of duty flying from India to China over the Himalaya Mountains, called the HUMP. He received numerous medals, including the Air Medal and an award from the Chinese Air Force. He received a set of pilot wings and a personal/professional achievement medal from General Chin Hsing-Ling, commander and chief of the Chinese Air Force. He remained in the US Air Force Reserves for a total of 27 years and retired as a Lt. Colonel (February 1969).
Red married Marjorie Amenson his junior year of college on November 28, 1946.
He spent 36 years with Swift Agricultural Chemical Division as a territory manager in northern Wisconsin and UP of Michigan. He retired from Swift in February 1984.
Red was an active member of Nativity of our Lord Church, ushering for over 40 years. He was a charter member of the Senior Optimist Club, as well as a member of the Military Officer Association, VFW, Paul's Pantry, Moose Club and the St Norbert's Golden Nights.
Red enjoyed a good game of sheepshead and a good manhattan with family and friends. He enjoyed downhill skiing and fishing with his kids and nephews. He organized many entertaining trips on Lake Michigan fishing for trout and salmon and house boat trips to the boundary waters and on the Mississippi.
In addition to his wife, Marjorie, of 70 years, Robert is survived by his children, Michael R Servais (Michelle) of Green Bay, Robert A Servais (Kelly) of Wrightstown and Jeffrey J Servais (Terri) of New Berlin; grandchildren, Stephanie Servais, Michelle Servais, Carlie Servais, Lindsay Servais, Maxwell Servais, Eli Servais, Hunter Servais and Sadie Servais; his sisters Elaine Gazella and Luella Schroeder.
He is preceded in death by his daughters Linda Servais and Susan Servais; his parents; his sisters Bernice (Henry) Nitka, Marie (Clifford) Moore; in-laws Chester Gazella, Hilton Schroeder, Don and Betty Amenson, Florence and Theodore Haverkorn, Arleen and Edward Jonet, Doris and Clifford Lampereur.
Visitation will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, at Nativity of our Lord Parish, 2270 South Oneida Street, Green Bay, WI from 11:00 am until 1:00 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the church on Friday at 1:00 pm with Rev. John H. Harper officiating. Burial will be at Fort Howard Memorial Park. Red's family would like to thank the nurses and staff of St Mary's Hospital (5th Floor) and the staff of Grand Care Rehab Center for the great care he received. They would also like to thank their neighbors for all of their help and support given during Bob's illness.
