- Edmund G. Kane, 83, Appleton, died Sunday morning, Aug. 22, 2004, at an Appleton hospital. He was born on Nov. 16, 1920, in De Pere, to the late Edward and Mollie (Shaughnessy) Kane. He was a 1939 graduate of St. Norbert High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945 during World War II and on Aug. 29, 1945, he married the former Frances Zegers at St. Mary's Catholic Church in De Pere.
Ed owned and operated Kane Plumbing in De Pere before moving to Sun Prairie to become a state plumbing inspector in Madison in 1958. He spent the remaining years of his career in industrial plumbing sales, retiring in 1984. Ed and Fran enjoyed 20 years of retirement together wintering in Brownsville, TX, and golfing regularly. He volunteered countless hours to St. Vincent de Paul where he formed many strong friendships.
His interests included golf, Packer games, daily crossword puzzles and, most importantly, his Irish heritage.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Fran; four daughters and two sons-in-law; three sons and one daughter-in-law; 13 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Roy, in 1993; and two brothers, Jerome and Lawrence.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wed., Aug. 25, 2004, at Lyndahl Funeral Home, Lombardi Ave. at Ridge Rd., Green Bay, where a wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Visitation will continue after 9:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 500 W. Marquette St., Appleton, where a Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 11 a.m. with the Rev. John Schuetze officiating. Interment in Mount Calvary Catholic Cemetery, De Pere.
