- Grandma Dolores was born November 13th, 1928 in Little Chute. She was the second of five children. She grew up on the corner of Buchanan St. and Lincoln Ave. She talks about when she was a young girl her and her older brother had to walk to Heesakker farm and get milk for the family every morning.
She attended St. John Grade school and High school. After graduating, she got a job at Montgomery Ward in downtown Appleton. Every day she used the bus to get to and from work.
She married Jerome Heiting on July 1st 1948 at St. John's at Little Chute. She quit her job to raise four boys Tom, Jeff, Scott, and Dave.
Grandma is known for her great cooking and baking. She always had a garden and every year canned her begetables. She was in a women's and a couple's league in golf. After she raised her four boys, she became a crossing guard for Kaukauna, for 13 years. She loved going to the family cottage that her husband Jerry built on Crane Lake. She went on walks, picked berries, went golding, and water-skied at least once a year until she was 68. In 2006, she joined the Holy Cross Choir and help sing at many masses and funerals.
Grandma Dolores is enjoying her retirement at her apartment at the St. Paul Villa. She also plays cards with her friends, is in the Villa Voices Choir, and is currently making a Christmas CD and when I asked her where they sant she said, "We sing at other nursing homes to the old people" (She thinks she is a young 81).
