- Gerald C. "Rabbit" De Grave, 68, Green Bay resident, died early Thursday morning, October 18, 2012 at a local hospital. Jerry was born July 10, 1944 in Green Bay to the late Ervin and Lorraine (Lamal) De Grave. He attended Summit Grade School and graduated from Preble High School in 1962. Jerry married the former Carla Buyarski on August 24, 1968 at SS Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church in the Town of Eaton. Nine days after they were married Jerry entered the U.S. Army. He served from September 4, 1968 until his honorable discharge on September 1, 1970. He was employed at Steve's Cheese in Denmark after high school and upon returning from service until 1978. Jerry was then employed at Georgia Pacific for over 26 years until his retirement in 2004. He was an active member and a pillar of Prince of Peace Catholic Church and their Holy Name Society. Jerry took great pride in assisting with parish funerals as an acolyte. He was an usher, Eucharistic Minister, served on the Social and Picnic Committees as well as assisting on the indoor and outdoor maintenance projects. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and was especially proud of his sons and supported them at the Luxemburg Raceway. He loved his Brewers and Packers and was an avid Nascar fan. Jerry never said no when he was asked to lend a hand.
He is survived by his wife Carla and their two sons and daughters-in-law: Todd and Julie, Green Bay and Troy and Jenny, DePere; his granddaughter Emma, who he loved and adored; his siblings: Carol ( William "Butch") Thielke, Green Bay; Bob (Deb) De Grave, Denmark and Betty Solberg (special friend, Karl Goeman), Green Bay; Jerry is also survived by his in-laws: Lynn Buyarski, Madison; Ron (Doris) Buyarski, Fence; Richard (Mary) Buyarski; Laura (Wayne) Lamal; Mary (Tom) Hopp and Alice Rabe, all of Green Bay. His mother-in-law, Lillian Buyarski, Green Bay, many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Henry Buyarski; nephew, Bob Thielke; grand niece, Paige Thielke and brother-in-law Dave Rabe
Friends may call at the Proko-Wall Funeral Home, 1630 E. Mason St. from 3:00 - 8:00 pm Sunday. Parish wake service 8:00 pm Sunday. Visitation will continue at Prince of Peace Catholic Church, 3425 Willow Rd., on Monday after 9:00 am until time of Mass. Funeral Mass 10:30 am Monday with Rev. Dan Viertel, Rev. Ron Belitz and Rev. Jerry's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to Dr. Nancy Davis, Dr. Raymond Bachhuber and all the nurses and staff at Aurora Baycare Hospital. Their care and compassion for Jerry and his family will always be remembered.
