    • Louise Sophia (Zimmerman) Hartjes, 87, of Rudolph, passed away peacefully at St. Joseph Hospital, Marshfield on Thursday, May 16, 2013.

Visitation will be at St. Philip the Apostle Catholic Church in Rudolph on May 25 at 8 a.m. with a Funeral Mass following at 11 a.m. The Rev. Rolando and the Rev. Chester Osowski will concelebrate.

Louise was born on Feb. 12, 1926, in the town of Linwood to Paul and Elizabeth (Schiltz) Zimmerman. A lifelong resident of Rudolph, she married Merton Hartjes on July 20, 1946, at St. Philip Church in Rudolph.

Louise loved cooking, baking, and sewing. Family and friends will treasure her heirloom quilts and table runners. She was a member of Homemakers, Christian Mothers, and the Monday Ladies Card Club. Spring through fall you could find her in the flower beds at the Grotto Gardens or in the Gift Shop.

She is survived by her five children: Larry (Kathy) Hartjes; Rudolph; Connie (Dave) Jagodzinski, Port Edwards; Roger (Cindy) Hartjes, Rudolph; Kris (Jerry) Willfahrt, Rudolph; and Jackie (Phil) Slattery, Rudolph. She is further survived by 13 grandchildren: Taryn (Chad) Fuller; Tana (Kyle) Nelson; Dana (Bob) Lex; Brian (Terri) Jagodzinski; Jessica (Ron) Adamski; Ed (fiancée Colleen) Hartjes; Jen (Ian) Wilkins; Mike (Amy) Wilfahrt; Anne (Rob) Teska; Rose Slattery; Nina Slattery; Racheal Slattery; and Natalie Slattery. There are 13 great-grandchildren. Louise is further survived by three sisters; Isabel Konkol, Adeline Peters and Irene Hartjes; and one brother, Val Zimmerman.

Louise was preceded in death by her husband, Merton Hartjes, parents, Paul and Elizabeth Zimmerman, two brothers, Ed and Henry, one sister, Marian and one grandson, Gabriel Hartjes.

Louise was well known for her bakery. The aroma of cinnamon rolls, lemon pies, or homemade soups often filled her kitchen. She kept her freezer stocked with cookies, some with nuts, some without, always a choice or two.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Rudolph Grotto Fund. The family extends very special thanks to the SICU staff at St. Joseph’s for their excellent care.
