    • Lori Louise Smits, 62, Townsend, passed away at home on December 12, 2016, following a stroke. She was born on July 23, 1954 in Waupaca. Lori was the baby of five children born to Dale and Gertrude (Kostuck) Sherman.

Lori graduated from Waupaca High School and moved to Green Bay to attend Nursing School. On Memorial Day weekend in 1973 Lori went camping with Joel Smits and they quickly fell in love. Three months later, on September 5th, they were married at the Brown County Courthouse.

Lori worked for many years as an LPN in both the clinical and insurance industry.

Spending time with family was most important in Lori's life. Vacation and time spent "up north" in Townsend with family and friends made her the happiest. She especially loved doting on her five grandchildren.

Lori is survived by her loving husband of 43 years, Joel; her two children, Molly Smits (Onalaska) and Samuel Smits (De Pere); and five grandchildren, Olivia, Timothy, Hannah, Bridget, and Silas. She is further survived by her siblings, as well as many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dale and Gertrude, one brother, Jere, parents-in-law, Randall and June (Adams) Smits, sister-in-law, Holly, along with other loved ones and friends.

Friends may call at Ryan Funeral Home, 305 N. Tenth Street, De Pere, from 12:00 to 2:00 PM on Friday, December 16, 2016. Please go to www.ryanfh.com to send online condolences to the Smits.

The family would like to extend special thanks to Beth, Mary Jo, Sally, Tim and Kathy, and everyone who visited to make Lori's final days special.
