Koutnik, Helen Ann Helen Ann Koutnik, 92, formerly of Sherwood, WI, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2007, at St. Francis Home. Helen was born in Charlesburg, WI, on August 8, 1914, the daughter of Mathew and Mary (Mullenbach) Franzen. She attended St. Charles School. Prior to her marriage, she worked at Leverenze Shoe Factory in New Holstein. Helen greatly enjoyed helping out family and friends with child care and housekeeping when new children were born into their families. She loved helping her daughter, Gloria, with her ceramic business. On October 3, 1939, she married Clifford J. Koutnik of Sherwood at St. Charles Church in Charlesburg. Helen was a member of Sacred Heart St. John Catholic Parish in Sherwood where she was a member of the Christian Women's Altar Society. She enjoyed the simple things of life, orchards, gardening, the singing of birds, the beauty of nature, flowers, sunsets and the smell of a fresh rain. Helen was very proud of her family and loved to be with them at their gatherings.
Helen and Clifford owned and operated Koutnik's Paint Store in Appleton. They spent over 50 years in the paint and wallpaper business.
She will be sadly missed by her four children: Jerome Koutnik, Cadott, WI; William Koutnik, Appleton, WI; Teresa (James) Karls, Fond du Lac, WI; Robert (Renee) Koutnik, Shiocton, WI; a son-in-law, Richard Van Elzen, Kimberly, WI; a sister-in-law, Martina Franzen, New Holstein, WI.
Her grandchildren include Annette Van Elzen-Chen, Kimberly, WI; Jeff (Cindy) Van Elzen, Racine, WI; Catherine (Mark) Randerson, Freedom, WI; Susan (Todd) Pennings, New Franken, WI; Brenda (Patrick) Skalecki, Appleton, WI; Mark (Melissa) Karls, Fond du Lac, WI; Sherri (Daniel) Kowalske, Elkhorn, WI; and Trever (Jennifer) Koutnik, Neenah, WI. Helen is further survived by her great-grandchildren: Harold Van Elzen-Chen, Alexandria, Angela and Nicholas Van Elzen, Justin, Benjamin and Emily Randerson, Adam, Jacob and Maria Pennings, Austin and Lindsey Skalecki, and Daniel and Ethen Kowalske.
She was preceded in death in 2002, by Clifford, her husband of sixty-two years, and a daughter, Gloria Van Elzen in 1998; two brothers: John and Joseph Franzen.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, June 13, 2007, at Sacred Heart Church in Sherwood, WI. The Rev. Joseph Wolf, OFM Cap. will preside over the Mass. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends at St. Francis Home, 33 Everett Street, Fond du Lac on Wednesday, from 9:00 until 10:45 a.m. and also at Sacred Heart Church in Sherwood from 2:30 p.m. until 3:45 p.m. A memorial fund in her name will be established.
The family is grateful to the staff at the St. Francis Home and her medical care givers for all their care and support.
