- Edward A. "Ed" Kukla, 92, Green Bay, passed away peacefully Friday morning, September 5, 2014, at his home. He was born March 1, 1922, in the Town of Eaton to Joseph and Angeline (Holda) Kukla. From 1941 to 1944, he proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was a member of VFW Post #9677. Ed helped build the Alaskan Highway during his tour of duty and enjoyed sharing the stories of his times in Alaska with his family. On August 10, 1946, he married Urania A. Basten at Holy Martyrs of Gorcum Catholic Church. The inseparable couple celebrated close to 65 years of marriage, doing everything together. They especially enjoyed fishing and gardening, and were well known for their raspberries. Their two daughters continue the legacy of their love of gardening. Ed and Urania were devout Catholics and had been members of Prince of Peace Parish. When she preceded him in death July 11, 2011, he missed her terribly.
Ed retired from Procter & Gamble Paper Mill in 1984 after a 36 year career. He was a talented handyman and wood worker. No matter how broken something was, Ed would try to fix it, and was usually successful. He was always there to help.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Nancy and Roger Timm, Karen and Mark Erieau; three grandchildren, Craig Timm, Erin Timm, and Brandon Erieau; two sisters and a brother, Esther Sauerhammer, Chester Kukla, and Antoinette Slomczynski; a sister-in-law and two brothers-in-law; nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Urania; Edward was preceded in death by his parents; brothers and sisters, Henry, Gertie, John, Emily, Anna, Elsie, Irene, Tony, Joseph, and Leonard.
