      Van Handel, Mary Ann (Mrs. John) Appleton

      Age 82, passed away Thursday November 27, 2003 at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King, Wisconsin. Mary was born May 19, 1921 in Dundas, Wisconsin, the daughter of the late John and Johanna (Penterman) Te Vrucht. She had resided most of her life in Appleton prior to moving to King 2 ½ years ago. Mary was united in marriage to John F. Van Handel on February 8, 1941 at Holy Angels Catholic Church in Darboy, sharing 62 years together. Mary will be remembered as a loving wife and mother who was devoted to her family. She enjoyed being a homemaker, cooking, and baking for her family. Mary was a member of St. Therese Catholic Church of Appleton and a former member of the Christian Mothers. She will be deeply missed by her husband John; four daughters Patricia Wort of Yorbalinda, CA, Jean (Craig) Seymour of Thousand Oaks, CA, Mary (Michael) Mader of Pleasant Prairie, WI, and Donna (Mohammed) Khatib of Alameda, CA; three sons Roger (Joyce) Van Handel of Appleton, David (Karen) Van Handel of Placentia, CA, and Duane Van Handel of Fountain Valley, CA; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren Ross (Sheila Van Handel and their children Frank, Claire, Lilli, and Luke; Reed (Joanna) Van Handel and their children Jon and Ryan; Heath (Jenney) Van Handel; Marc Van Handel; Lisa and Amy Mader; Sarah and Adam Khatib; a brother Urban Te Vrucht of Washington; a sister Dolores Hoelzel of Darboy; and a sister-in-law and special friend Jo Te Vrucht. In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her adoptive parents Henry and Clara Otte, five brothers; Norbert, Barney, Arthur and William Te Vrucht and Francis Otte. The Mass or Resurrection will be celebrated 11 AM Monday December 1st at St. Therese Catholic Church, corner of Wisconsin and Morrison Sts., with Fr. William Hoffman officiating. Burial will take place at St. Joseph Cemetery. Friends may call directly at the church from 9 AM Monday until the time of the service. A Memorial fund has been established. Through all the hardships of life, you were always ready and willing to give your children the love and support they needed, to laugh alongside your grandchildren, and to show off your new great grandchildren. We can only hope to pass on the same love and respect to all those in our lives.
