87, passed away peacefully on Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015, at Brewster Village, Appleton. He was born the 2nd of 12 children on August 12, 1927 to the late Joseph and Mary Van Handel in the Town of Harrison, WI. Clarence was a devoted husband for 66 years to his wife Mary Ferguson whom he married on May 1, 1948 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. He farmed for 20+ years and worked for Neenah Foundry and Fox Tractor. Clarence was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Catholic Foresters. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, square dancing, camping, bowling and sheepshead. Clarence had a smile from ear to ear when the family arrived on holidays; the cards were on the table.

He is survived by his wife: Mary; 8 children: Jim (Barb) Van Handel, Sandy (Terry) Lillie, Kathy (Mike) Glasheen, Gary (Brenda) Van Handel, Cindy (Ronnie) Hermus, Ron (Carolee Moe) Van Handel, Lisa (Tom) Vanden Langdenberg and Greg (Laurie) Van Handel; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Arnold (Geraldine) Van Handel, Julia Priesler, Irene Schneidewend, Rosie (Bob) Weiland, Delores (Ron) Nussbaum, Dorothy Plutz, Norbert Van Handel, Margaret Liebergen (special friend Darwin Schwartz), Marvin Van Handel (special friend Pat Barker), and Anthony (Kathy) Van Handel; and a sister-in-law Romae Van Handel.

Clarence was preceded in death by his parents, brother: Alois Van Handel; brothers-in-law: Steve Preisler, Philip Schneidewend, Jerry Plutz, and Ivo Liebergen; and four grandchildren: Mathew, Farah, Amanda and Michaela.

A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30AM, Friday, April 10, 2015 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom with Rev. Walter Stumpf officiating. Friends may visit the family from 9:30-11:30AM directly at church on Friday. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.

The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Brewster Village for the excellent and compassionate care shown to Clarence and his family.
