- Wayne L. Hartjes, 83, of Wisconsin Rapids, died Tuesday evening, Nov. 23, 2010, at Arborwood Lodge.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip's The Apostle Catholic Church in Rudolph. The Rev. Timothy Welles will officiate. Burial will be in All Souls Cemetery in Rudolph with military rites provided by American Legion Post 485.
Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until the time of services Saturday at the church.
Wayne was born in Rudolph on Nov. 24, 1926, to Sylvester and Marie (Dorshorst) Hartjes.
He was a truck driver at Consolidated Papers Inc. for 40 years. While working at the mill, he also operated a hobby farm.
After retiring from Consolidated Papers, Wayne was the groundskeeper for Rudolph Village Park. He took great pride in having the ball diamonds ready for Little League games. He also spent his retirement years doing woodworking projects with his prize piece being a cathedral clock. He was known as "Mr. Fix-It" to his grandchildren because they could rely on him to fix just about anything.
Wayne served his country with the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.
Wayne was a member of St. Philip's The Apostle Catholic Church where he was an usher. He also was a member of American Legion Post 485, the Rudolph Volunteer Fire Department and the Catholic Order of Foresters.
Survivors include his family, Irene Hartjes of Rudolph; one son, Denis (Lynette) Hartjes of Rudolph; three daughters, Becky (Harold) Engstrand of Rudolph, Barb (John) Floyd of Eden and Bobbi (Larry) O'Shasky of Rudolph; one grandson, Simon; 10 granddaughters, Sara, Mindy, Beth, Penny, Terri, Josie, Amy, Hannah, Ella and Jaclyn; eight great-grandchildren; and one brother, Mert (Louise) Hartjes of Rudolph. He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Marvin; and one sister, Clarice.
Memorials may be designated to St. Philip's The Apostle Catholic Church in Wayne's name.
Taylor, Vollert and Jennings Funeral Home in Wisconsin Rapids is assisting the family.
The family would like to extend their thanks to the staff of Arborwood Lodge for their loving care and to the Ministry Home Care Hospice workers for their support.
