- Age 95, passed away on Monday, October 23, 1995, at Franciscan Healthcare Center, Appleton, WI. He was born on August 16, 1900, in the Town of Center, WI., son of John and Bertha (Beckman) Riehl. Albert and his wife farmed many years in the Town of Center. Upon retirement from farming he worked in maintenance for the Appleton State Bank (M&I Bank). Albert also volunteered at the Thompson Community Center for many years. In his spare time he enjoyed hunting, fishing and playing his violin. He was a member of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Ellington; the AARP and the Farm Bureau.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Sophia (Lewandowski) Riehl, Appleton; three daughters and a son-in-law; Doris and Lloyd DeDecker, Clearfield, Utah; Germaine Kaphingst, Appleton; Vernice Kaphingst, Florida; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Janet Kaphingst; two sons-in-law, Gordon Kaphingst and Robert Kaphingst, six brothers, William (Mary) Riehl, Fernand Riehl, Herman (Adelia) Riehl, Henry (Ella) Riehl, John (Minnie) Riehl and Fred (Cora) Riehl; three sisters and five brothers-in-law, Anton (Theresa) Schmidt, Anna Kruse, Ignatz McHugh, William Kruse, Elsie Hartsworm, John Tremmel, John Hartsworm, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, October 26, 1995, at the Ellington Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, Town of Ellington, with Pastor Joel Lillo officiating. Friends may call at the church Thursday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service.
