Gerald C. Verstegen
Neenah
Passed away peaceful Tuesday afternoon, February 10, 1998 surrounded by family and friends. He was 86 years, and led a wonderful and blessed life. He was born August 4, 1911 in Little Chute, Wi., to Joseph and Anna Verstegen, he was the sixth of thirteen children. He was educated at St. John's School in Little Chute, St. Norbert High School in De Pere, and Lawrence College in Appleton. He moved Neenah with his new bride, Margaret A. Lamers after their marriage on August 10, 1940. They lived in Neenah since that time. They had four children. Gerald was a long time member of St. Margaret Mary Catholic Church and a devotee of Our Lady of Perpetual Help. He was also a long time member of Ridgeway Country Club, the Elks Club, the Neenah Club, and was active in community service. An avid sportsman, he exceled in golf, baseball, football, racket sports and bowling. He played quarter back for the Little Chutes Flying Dutchmans High School and played short stop for the Little Chute City Baseball Team for 10 years there after. In golf, he made four hole's in one's and accumulated many trophies. Gerald was employed by the Kimberly Clark Corp. at Corporate Headquarters in Neenah for 41 years, in the Planning and Purchasing Dept. In addition he found Verstegen's Realty, selling much of the land in what is now southeast Neenah. He was a member of the Fox Valley Board of Realtors.
A loving and caring man, Gerald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret; his three daughters, Marilyn Kiefer, Northville, Michigan; Deborah Verstegen, Charlottesville, Virginia; and Susan Verstegen Nolop, New York City; four grandchildren, Kathryn Kiefer and Karrie Kiefer Ahern; Michael and Nathan Nolop; three great grandchildren, Matthew Barnes and Emily and Zachary Ahern; six brothers and sisters, Bob and Ernie Verstegen, Bernice Vander Velden, Irene and Ida Peeters, and Joanne Hawley.
His only son, Michael, preceded him on June 4, 1962. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, February 13, 1998 at St. Margaret Catholic Church. Interment will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenh. Friends may call at the Kessler Funeral Home, from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m.
