- Gretchen Fitzpatrick, 95, passed away peacefully early on Thursday morning, November 25, 2010. Gretchen was born in Dillon, Mont., on April 18, 1915, daughter of the late Forrest and Martha (Berens) Banning. The family attended Holy Cross Church in Kaukauna. Gretchen graduated from the Holy Cross School in 1929 and graduated from Kaukauna High School in 1933.
On June 15, 1946, she married Richard "Fitz" Fitzpatrick at Holy Cross. He preceded her in death in 1999. Gretchen was a member of the Knights of Columbus Auxiliary, the Letter Carriers' Auxiliary and enjoyed flower gardening.
She is survived by two children, Barbara Winkler, Sussex; and Michael (Sharon) Fitzpatrick, Janesville; two grandchildren, Michelle Fitzpatrick (fiance, Ryan Berends) and Tom Fitzpatrick; a sister, Mary (Robert) Flynn, Kaukauna; a brother-in-law, Dale Kilgas, Kaukauna; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families, and special friends and neighbors.
Gretchen was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, infant son, infant sister, son-in-law, William Winkler, and a sister, Helen Kilgas.
A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 1, 2010, at SACRED HEART CATHOLIC CHURCH, 222 E. Fremont Street in Appleton. The family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Wednesday morning from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family would like to offer their sincere thanks to all of the wonderful caregivers at Touchmark on Prospect, St. Paul Elder Services and to Dr. Mahoney and his staff. Our mother could have been in no better hands. Thank you all so very much.
