    • James F. Turek, 88, Green Bay resident, died Tuesday morning, July 19, 2016 at a local hospital. He was born July 1, 1928, in Green Bay to the late Frank and Anna Marie (DeGroot) Turek. Jim attended Green Bay East High graduating in 1946. He served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until his honorable discharge in 1953. Jim married the former Louise Blaney on August 11, 1956 at St. Mary of the Angels Catholic Church. She preceded him in death on August 23, 2015. Jim was an entrepreneur his entire life. He worked at grocery stores, gas stations and soda fountains. In 1948 Jim bought a hamburger stand and with the help of his mother and father traveled local communities frying and selling hamburgers. He became involved in the family cattle business, Turek Livestock, buying calves. After the calf business slowed, he responded to an ad for a house painter. Jim sold calves in the morning and painted houses in the afternoon. In 1975 Jim began Turek Painting and Decorating and owned the business until his retirement in 2004. Jim was involved with the Boy Scouts and the Elks Club for many years. He enjoyed a game of cards and was an avid reader and crossword puzzle fan. His day always began drinking coffee and reading several newspapers. Jim and Louise were longtime members of St. Matthews Parish.

Jim is survived by his four children: Steve (Dick Buckwheat) Turek, Eau Claire; Amy (Steve) Veilleux, Winslow, ME; Laura (Jeff) Schultz, Madison and Julie Turner, Winter Park, CO; five grandchildren: Sarah Warner, Zach (Naomi) Warner, Rebecca Schultz, Sam Schultz and Abi Turner; two sisters-in-law, Patricia Wiesner, CA and Bonnie Blaney, Green Bay, nieces and nephews.
