- Marvin H. Smith, 90, of Appleton, died Thursday, December 26, 2013, at his home at the Renaissance.
Marvin was born March 16, 1923, in Kaukauna, the son of the late Henry and Harriet (Verhagen) Smith. He was united in marriage to Germaine Van Gompel on September 30, 1947, and she preceded him in death on January 25, 2006. They were blessed with six children. Prior to his retirement, Marv was a semi driver for CW Transport.
Marv and Germaine were original and active members at St. Thomas More Catholic Church. They enjoyed going to area restaurants for dinner and socializing. He had a green thumb for gardening and growing roses. Marv was a huge Packer fan too!
Survivors include his sons: Ronald (Mimi) Smith, Chicago, and James (Debbie) Smith, Little Chute; three daughters: Patricia (Joseph) Brinsko, Winneconne, Barbara (Michael) Dercks, Sobieski, and Jayne (Mark) Ziegler, Hortonville; a son-in-law, John Derks, Kaukauna; there are 16 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren; and two brothers: Jerome Smith (special friend, Charlene), of Neenah, and Joseph (Arlene) Smith, Menasha. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Derks, two brothers, Wilford and Clyde, and Annaceil, his sister.
The funeral mass for Marvin will be celebrated Tuesday, December 31, 2013, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, with Fr. Gerald Falk officiating. Visitation will be held at church from 9:00 a.m. Tuesday until the hour of mass. Interment will be in St. Joseph Cemetery. A memorial fund in Marvin's honor is being established.
