      Smith, Germaine M. "Geri" Germaine M. Smith, age 85, passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Wednesday, January 25, 2006, at Cherry Meadows Hospice. She was born in Little Chute on August 31, 1920, a daughter of the late Albert and Anna (Menting) VanGompel. Germaine married Marvin H. Smith on September 30, 1947. She was a longtime member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Germaine was very proud of the fact that she attained her GED Diploma. She was an avid Packer fan, animal lover and also loved tending to her garden and her loving husband Marvin. She will always be remembered for "always being at home" when needed most. She was a very faithful wife, mother, Christian woman. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her. Germaine is survived by her husband of 58 years, Marvin; two sons: James (Debbie) Smith of Little Chute; and Ronald (Mimi) Smith of Chicago; four daughters: Patricia (Joseph) Brinsko of Winneconne; Karen (John) Derks of Appleton; Barbara (Michael) Dercks of Sobieski; and Jayne (Mark) Ziegler of Hortonville; 16 grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren. Germaine is further survived by many dear friends and special nieces: Delores Moser and Doris Dietzen. She was preceded in death by her parents, six sisters: Catherine Johnson, Marie Powless, Clara Houle, Helen Heckel, Theresa Dietzen, and Leona Van Gompel; three brothers: Elmer, Omer and Willard Van Gompel. A Mass of Christian burial will be held for Germaine at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 28, 2006, at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 1810 N. McDonald Street, with Father Gerald Falk officiating. A time of visitation and support will be held at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the mass. Interment will follow in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Appleton. The family of Germaine would like to send a heart felt thank you to Dr.William Guenther and everyone at the Martha Seikman Cancer Center.
