- Our beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, Franklin O. Ferg, was taken into the loving arms of his Blessed Savior on Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, in the City of Waupaca. He was born on Aug. 1, 1926, in Manawa, the son of the late Otto and Bertha (Steinbach) Ferg. He attended Green Valley Elementary School and graduated on May 26, 1939. He attended Little Wolf High School and graduated in 1943.
Upon leaving high school, Franklin married Bette Wilcox on May 7, 1949, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Manawa. He farmed in the Town of Little Wolf from 1945 until 1976 and then from 1976 until present in Waupaca. Franklin was a lifelong National Brown Swiss Association member and farmed with his son, Tom, in Waupaca. The Lone Oak Swiss herd was host to many Brown Swiss groups. One of Franklin's best known cows was Lone Oak Ima Doll, who held the protein production record for nearly ten years. Cattle and embryos from the Lone Oak Swiss herd were sold worldwide and were highly respected.
He was highly supportive of FFA and 4-H. Part of Franklin's farm in Waupaca was donated to the Waupaca Humane Society and their new building is located on part of the land where his cows grazed.
He will be sadly missed by his wife, Bette; his six children, Thomas (Loretta) Ferg, Sandy Spierings, Vicki (Kent) Gehrke, Pam (Kenneth) Samson, Geneva (Perry) Patri and Dee-Dee Lowney; 18 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren; and sister, Velda (Paul) Quimby. He is further survived by brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, and also his church family.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Lane; and his son-in-law, Tom Lowney.
The memorial service for Franklin will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Shepherd of the Lakes Church (153 County Road QQ, Waupaca) with the Rev. David Martin officiating. Burial will be in Little Wolf Cemetery, Town of Little Wolf. Friends may call at the Cline-Hanson-Dahlke Funeral Home in Weyauwega, on Monday, Oct. 25, 2010, from 4 to 8 p.m. and on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
Memorials may be directed to the Waupaca Humane Society, American Diabetes Foundation, Waupaca County Youth Dairy Association, Shepherd of the Lakes Church and Waupaca FFA.
