      Vander Velden, Marie (Newhouse) Marie (Newhouse) Vander Velden, age 92, formerly of Cecil, passed away on Tuesday, October 24, 2006, at Franciscan Care Center in Appleton. Marie was born on December 29, 1913, in Freedom, daughter of Anthony and Anna (Vanden Berg) Newhouse. Marie married Simon "Cy" Vander Velden on June 9, 1937.

      He preceded her in death in June, 1981. They owned and operated Cy & Marie's Tavern in Bonduel for many years.

      Marie was a member of St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil and a member of St. Martin Catholic Women's Club. She was a former member of the Cecil Legion Auxiliary and the Cecil Lioness Club. She always enjoyed being able to go bowling.

      She is survived by her son, Jay and his wife Bonnie of Kaukauna; grandson, Mark and his wife Sandy; great-granddaughters, Payton, Carly and Drew; granddaughter, Wende Arnoldussen; and great-granddaughters, Megan and Rachel. She is also survived by her son, Gary and his wife Georgiann of Crivitz; grandsons: Brock, Blaine, Logan and his wife Alee; great-grandsons, Logan and Elijah; granddaughter, Leah (Vander Velden) Thomas and her huband Andrew; a sister-in-law, Martha Vander Velden Schwab of Kaukauna.

      She was preceded in death by her husband Cy; sisters, Hazel Derfus and Elaine (Charles) Vander Zanden; brothers, Merlin Newhouse and Lloyd (Mildred) Newhouse; brothers-in-law: Urban, Lyle, Elmer and Cleborne Vander Velden.

      Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 28, 2006, at 11 a.m. at St. Martin Catholic Church in Cecil with Deacon Tom Craig officiating. Family and friends may call at the church on Saturday from 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will be held at St. Martin Church Cemetery in Cecil. Zastrow Funeral Home in Cecil is assisting the family.

      The family would like to thank the staff at Franciscan Care for their years of care and support for their mother.
