Verbruggen, Lee Cornelius "2-E"
Lee Verbruggen, 50, Little Chute, died unexpectedly at his home Tuesday, February 12, 2008. He was born September 12, 1957, in Appleton, son of Cornelius and Mary Jane (Vanden Heuvel) Verbruggen. Lee married Robin Van Epern on September 10, 1983, at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. Mr. Verbruggen was a member of St. John Nepomucene Catholic Church, Little Chute. Lee was a 1975 graduate of Little Chute High School. He worked along side his father with Verbruggen Construction for many years. With his father and brothers he renovated Ryan's School into Ryan's bar, which became well-known for its exceptional character and craftsmanship. He ran Ryan's bar for 10 years. In 1994, Lee established Cornelius Concrete with his brother Dave, which he owned and operated for 14 years. Lee loved spending time with his family at Crystal Lake where he along side his father and brothers built the family cottage. He loved to play washer toss there. He was a wonderful uncle who provided many hours of entertainment for the kids. Lee enjoyed traveling, especially to Las Vegas, and was a proud member of "The Crush" softball team. He was an avid Packers fan.
Lee is survived by his wife, Robin; his mother, Mary Jane Verbruggen, Little Chute; his loving children, Casey Lee Verbruggen and Laura Lea Verbruggen, both of Little Chute; his brothers and a sister: Bill (Sharon) Verbruggen, Combined Locks, Dave (Patricia) Verbruggen, Kimberly, Pam Van Gompel, Little Chute and special friend, Charlie Hermus, Dan (Billie) Verbruggen, Town of Van Den Broek, Ken (Karen) Verbruggen, Little Chute; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Terry (Kris) Van Epern, Kaukauna; Sandy (Jeff) Kunkel, Leavenworth, KS; Guy (Bonnie) Van Epern, Hurley; Roxy (Jerome) Gebert, Kaukauna; Will (Beth) Van Epern, Kaukauna; his mother-in-law, Helen Van Epern; godparents, Joan and Joe Verbrick, Little Chute; godchildren, Christine VanGompel, Carrie Verbruggen, Kurt Van Epern and Cameron Kunkel; nieces and nephews: Emily, Marnie, and Libby Verbruggen; Eric, Ryan and Adam Verbruggen; Jake, Kayla Van Gompel; Morgan and Zach Verbruggen; Luke, Ben and Anna Verbruggen; Corey Van Epern; Kyle, Corey Kunkel; Derik and Heidi Van Epern; Danielle, Andrea and Mikaela Gebert; Aidan and Jack Van Epern; great-nieces and great- nephews: Issac and Ayden; Brett, Taylor and Dylan; many other relatives and close friends.
Lee was preceded in death by his father, Casey Verbruggen, and father-in-law, Dick Van Epern.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 16, 2008, at St. John Nepomucene Church with Fr. James Hablewitz officiating. Interment will be in St. John Cemetery, Little Chute. Friends may call at the Verkuilen Funeral Home from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and at the church from 9:30 a.m. Saturday until the time of the mass. In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
