Silwanowicz, Joseph J. Joseph J. Silwanowicz, formerly of Menasha, age 87, passed away on Sunday November 5, 2006, at the Wisconsin Veterans Home in King. Joe was born August 27, 1919, in Menasha the son of the late Michael and Mary (Paveletzke) Silwanowicz. Joe was a World War Two Veteran with 5 years of service 3 years overseas. He was awarded the Bronze Medal of Honor for going under enemy fire to rescue a wounded man from his company.
Joe married Martha "Molly" Van Domelen, who preceded him in death on September 27, 1995. He had been employed at American Can Company/James River for 32 years. Joe had also worked for the Menasha Public Schools as the School Bus Manager for 30 years. He was a City of Menasha Police officer for 5 years. Joe was a member of the quarter century club-Menasha School District, a member of the American Legion, the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Menasha.
Joe is survived by his daughters: Barbara Fischer, Massachusetts; Patricia Breitreiter, Texas; four grandchildren: Joseph Breitreiter, Blair Breitreiter, Jeffrey Fischer and Julie Willis, also five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Martha, his parents and a sister Dorothy Taves.
Funeral services for Joe will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2006, at 3 p.m. at St. John Catholic Church, 516 De Pere St., Menasha, with Father Paul Radetski officiating. Burial will be in St. Margaret Cemetery, Neenah. Friends and family will be received at the church on Thursday afternoon from 2 p.m. until the hour of the funeral mass.
