- Barbara Ann Koester, age 64, passed away on Friday, August 13, 2010, surrounded by her family at Colony Oaks Care Center. She was born August 7, 1946, in Appleton; the daughter of the late Ralph and Elaine (Boushley) Ciske.Barbara married Jerry Koester on June 25, 1966, at St. John Catholic Church Menasha, Jerry preceded her in death on May 3, 2005. She worked at Treasure Island as Head Cashier for many years until obtaining her Certified Nurses Assistant License from Fox Valley Technical College; Barbara went on to work at St. Elizabeth Hospital until her medical retirement.She enjoyed shopping on QVC, collecting black bears and bobble heads. She loved Packer, Timber Rattler and Brewer games, trips up north to St. Germain, strawberries, but especially her grandchildren.
Her survivors include her children; Valarie (Dale) Lagerman, Appleton, Dan (Karen) Koester, Wauwatosa and Mark (Molly) Koester, Evanston, Illinois; five grandchildren Kennedy, Jordan, Madeline, James and Nicholas; her dogs Lucy and Ricky.Barbara is further survived by her stepmother Esther Ciske, Darboy; two brothers, Joe (Barb) Ciske, Menasha, Tom (Mary) Ciske, Darboy, a sister Sharon (Jim) Martin, Appleton, a brother in law Ron (Kathy) Koester and two sisters in law Renee' (Kamal) Kawar, Yvonne Engelman, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
A funeral mass will be held for Barbara on Tuesday, August 17, 2010, 11:30 a.m. at St. Bernadette Catholic Church, 2331 E Lourdes Dr. Appleton, WI 54915, with Father Donald Zuleger officiating. Family and friends will be received at a visitation on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until the hour of mass. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery, Menasha.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial is being established.
A special thank you to Dr. Elisberg and staff, Dr. Vogel and staff, the staff of Colony Oaks Care Center and to her special friends Dorothy, Jane and many other friends who touched her heart.
