- Lois V. (Schuh, Peterson) Cox, age 98, of Crandon & Cumberland WI, peacefully passed into eternity Saturday, April 30, 2011 at AGI Healthcare, Crandon where she had been a resident for the past month. She was born November 22, 1912 in Elcho WI, the daughter of John & Wilhelmina Minnie (Daga) Schuh.
She married Erve Peterson on August 16, 1929 in Deerbrook WI. They resided in Newald WI. He preceded her in death on August 10, 1978. She married Chester Chet Cox on August 12, 1989 in Tipler WI. They resided in Tipler, Apache Junction AZ, and also Cumberland at her son Jacks home. Chet preceded her in death on January 9, 2001.
Lois accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior after hearing the gospel presented by Matilda Erickson, a missionary who came to Newald in the 1940s. Matilda became a close friend and mentor to Lois, along with missionaries Elsie Noreen & Alvera Dahlberg, who together were instrumental in establishing the Covenant Church in Newald. Lois & her family attended church there. Lois was very active in the Ladies Aid, serving at church, and hosted many speakers in their home. Lois & her family later attended Long Lake Community Bible Church in Long Lake WI, led by Pastor Reuben Hendrickson. Reuben became a dear friend of Lois & Erve and the family, and remains so to this day.
For six summers Lois cooked at Hagerman Lake Bible Camp in Iron River MI, meeting wonderful pastors & their wives, and developed close relationships with them. Lois also worked many years as a Nurses Aid at Blackwell Nursing Home (NuRoc), Crandon Nursing Home (AGI Healthcare), and the Ovitz Hospital in Laona working alongside Dr. Castaldo & Dr. Moffit, whom she respected & learned so much from, even helping to deliver many babies.
Lois was a good cook, and enjoyed sewing, knitting, & crocheting for her family. Everyone has an afghan that grandma made. Lois loved her grandchildren, & loved to spend time with them, whether it was preparing picnics and watching the kids swim at Lake VanZile, teaching someone to bake, reading countless books, or playing Uno & Crazy Eights for the umpteenth time. Lois always had a full cookie jar for the grandkids, and a cup of coffee to offer a visitor. She didnt like to be fussed over, but would rather be available to help each one in her family. She would prefer to wear someones hand-me-downs than pay store prices, and was often heard to say something like, Well, these are Ruths slacks, Celes blouse, & Gladys coat. Lois loved going to Elcho to visit relatives. She was especially close with her sister Alice Reynolds, sister-in-law Frieda Schuh, & brother Gene (& wife Ruth) Schuh.
Lois is survived by her daughter Marilyn Chadek (Crandon), son Jack Peterson (Cumberland), and daughter-in-law Eunice Peterson (Oconomowoc WI); grandchildren Karen (Mike) OBrien, Jill (Dean) Johnson, Jeff (Melissa) Peterson, Joanee Smith, Paul (Karen) Peterson, & Kevin Peterson; great-grandchildren Johnny (Kendra), Janelle, Eddie (fiancé Jackie), Jenny Sue (Tim), Dusty, Devon, Erin, Claire, Heath, Brett, Merritt, Jeremy, Jonathan, Mariah, Seth, Joshua, & Jessica (Adam); great-great-grandchildren Alexandra, Addison, Max, Lauren, Jadealyse, & Emilee; and numerous nieces & nephews.
