November 15, 1946 ~ March 25, 2023 (age 76) Donald M. Abel, 76, passed away on March 25, 2023. Don was born on November 15, 1946, to Marvin and Ethel (Hoks) Abel. He graduated from Appleton High School in 1965 and was united in marriage to Mary Vonck on April 23, 1966. Don was a member of the Wisconsin Army National Guard, Red Arrow Division, from 1966 to 1972 and was an expert marksman. He worked for Giddings and Lewis and retired as a quality inspector from Fox Valley Tool and Die. He was an active member of the Brillion Conservation Club. With a selfless soul and a smile for all, Don cared for everyone he met. A contented teacher to anyone willing, he shared stories from the fine art of fishing and carpentry to caring for nature and mushroom hunting. A kind ear was offered to those in need, with his hugs in infinite stock. He stood by the side of those trodden or teased and loved without bias. Don is survived by his wife, Mary, children; Julie (Jean-Didier) Allongue, and Timm Abel, grandchildren; Matthew, Hope, Faith, and Raphael, a great-grandchild Addilyn, sisters Joan (Tom) Marohl, and Kate (Jim) Hardt, step brother Ron (Karen) Christensen, step sisters; Valerie Allen, and Imogene (Von) Solberg, a nephew Todd (Melanie) Marohl, other relatives, and friends. Don was preceded in death by his parents, his in-laws, stepmom Edna Vonck, and other extended family. A memorial service for Don will be held on Saturday, April 1, 2023, at 2:00 p.m. at Verkuilen Van Deurzen Family Funeral Home, 101 Canal St. Little Chute.
