John M. Brouchek

Age 85, died Friday morning after a brief illness. He was born May 16, 1894 in Kaukauna, where he lived all of his life. Mr. Brouchek was employed at the Kaukauna Post Office for 50 years and was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers' Association. He was an Army Veteran of World War I, where he played in the Army band. He was also a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, and of the Holy Cross Queen of Peace Choir, the Appleton City Band and the Little Chute Community Band. At one time he had an old time music band of his own. He played taps for many military funerals throughout the Valley. Mr. Brouchek was also a member of the Musicians' Union Local 337 since 1915. He was a Bailiff for Outagamie County Courthouse for the past 15 years. Survivors include two daughters: Mrs. Jerome (Ruth) Schommer and Mrs. Floyd (Marion) Stegeman, both of Kaukauna; three grandchildren: David Schommer, Kaukauna; Richard Stegeman, Kimberly; Sue Vanderloop, Kaukauna; seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Josephine, September 1968. The complete funeral will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with Father Mike Hofmann officiating. Burial will be in the parish cemetery. Friends may call at the Fargo Funeral Home after 4 p.m. Sunday and Monday until the cortege leaves for the church. There will be a 7 p.m. prayer service on Sunday. A memorial for St. Paul Home has been established.
