- Fred J. Ponschock, age 89, of Appleton, was laid to eternal rest on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Hospital after a month long illness. Fred was born in Appleton on January 13, 1924 to the late Frank and Mary (Haberman) Ponschock. On August 24, 1946, he was united in marriage to Rose Ann Brooks. The couple has enjoyed 66 years together. Fred worked for Kimberly Clark at the Lakeview Mill for 41 years, retiring in 1984. He enjoyed working in his shop in the garage and also travelling around the state with his wife Rosie in search of the best Friday night fish fry. He was a longtime member at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Appleton.
He is survived by his wife, Rose Ann, Appleton; 5 daughters: Mary Therese (Bruce) Epling, Houston, Sharon (Joe) Keyzers, Boulder Junction, Donna Ponschock, Appleton, Joan Ponschock, Appleton, and Debra (Brad) Meyer, Hilbert; a son, Ronald (Kathleen) Ponschock, Appleton, and a son-in-law, James Rathsack, Appleton; 10 grandchildren: Chad Ponschock, Seth (Heather) Ponschock, Jody (Mike) Kohlbeck, Adam (Kelli) Keyzers, Melissa Keyzers, Andy Keyzers, Travis (Fiance Ashley) Rathsack, Spenser (Kelly) Rathsack, and Samantha and Nicholas Meyer; 7 great grandchildren: Aryah, Ellison, Gretchen, Adria, Julia, Hayden, and Christian; 4 brothers-in-law: Father Charles Brooks, Roger "Duke" (Alice) Brooks, Henry Brooks, and John (Shirley) Kemkes; 3 sisters-in-law: Janet (Jake) Huber, Judy Brooks, and Betty (Marv) Rademacker. He is further survived by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers: Lester (Rosella), Norman (Beverly) Eddie (Leona), and Dan (Mary) Ponschock; 6 brothers-in-law: Adrian, Wilmer (Helen), Richard, Joseph (Betty), Jacob (Judy) and Franklin (Janelle); and 4 sisters-in-law: Theresa, Virginia, Mary Alice (Paul), and Sister Mary Henry.
A Mass of Resurrection will be celebrated at 11 am on Saturday, February 9, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 222 E. Fremont St., Appleton, with Father Don Zuleger officiating and Father Charles Brooks concelebrating. Friends may visit at the church on Saturday from 9 am until the time of service. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the Comfort Care staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital and the staff at Appleton Health Care Center for all their kindness, care and concern.
