    • Loretta J. “Betty” Brooks age 80 of Chilton Care Center, formerly of Hilbert, died on Sunday January 11, 2004 at Calumet Medical Center in Chilton. She was born July 4, 1923 in the Town of Liberty in Manitowoc County daughter of the late Nicholas & Theresa (Wesling) Backhaus. She married Joseph Diedrich on November 12, 1941. He preceded her in death on June 7, 1957. On June 14, 1960 Betty married Joseph Brooks. He preceded her in death on July 3, 1998. For many years Loretta was the owner and operator of Brooks Bar in Forest Junction. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert. She is survived by her children: Russel (Ruth) Diedrich of Chilton, Barb Lueloff of Sturgeon Bay; a son-in-law: Tom Hoeft of Kewaunee; 9 grandchildren: Sue (Pete) Dramm of Manitowoc, Brian (Sara) Diedrich of Chilton, Chris (Cindy) Diedrich of Marytown, Christine (Richard) Kinjerski of Mishicot, Sandy (Bill) Bosman of Sturgeon Bay, Pat (Sarah) Hoeft of Green Valley, Debbie (Kurt) Koerner of Dale, Mike Lueloff of Aurora, IL, Lisa Lueloff of Sturgeon Bay; 9 great grandchildren; & 2 sisters-in-law: Angie Hein of Chilton, & Marcella Backhaus of St. Nazianz. Loretta was also preceded in death by a daughter: Judith Hoeft; 3 sisters: Mary Meyer, Anna Frewert, Rose Wesling; & 4 brothers: Henry, Frank, Ed, & Joe Backhaus. Funeral services will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday January 15, 2004 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hilbert with the Rev. Kenneth Frozena officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Reedsville. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home (411 W. Main St.) in Chilton from 4 to 8 PM on Wednesday and on Thursday at the funeral home from 9:30 – 10:30 AM when family prayers will be held.
