- Ernest G. Weihbrecht, Jr., 80, Green Bay, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at his home with his family at his side. Ernie was born on Feb. 12, 1930, in De Pere, Wis., to the late Ernest and Loretta (Smits) Weihbrecht Sr. Ernie enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and re-enlisted in the U.S. Army to serve his country during the Korean War, and was discharged in 1954. On Jan. 17, 1953, he married the former Gladys E. Stanchik and the couple has enjoyed over 57 years together. Ernie worked in construction for all of his life and was employed by Dick Zolper for over 25 years. His dedication and pride in his work were appreciated by many. Ernie's family and work came first but he liked to play cribbage and in his earlier years enjoyed bowling in a couples league. He threw one of the fastest balls in the area and you could hear the crack of the pins everywhere in the alley. Ernie loved his family very much and enjoyed many memorable times together.
Ernie is survived by his loving wife, Gladys; his children, Russell (Joanne) Weihbrecht, David Weihbrecht, Katherine (Paul) Burkard, Karen Weihbrecht, Wesley Weihbrecht, Ernest Weihbrecht, III; nine grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; one sister and brother-in-law, Carlotte (Roger) Garrity; two sisters-in-law, Frances and Lillian. He is further survived by other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandson, Michael Paul Burkard, two brothers, Rudolph and Richard.
Gathering of family and friends will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Friday, June 11, 2010, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 1224 12th Avenue. Funeral Service 11 a.m. at the church with Rev. Timothy Brandt officiating.
In lieu of flowers, a Memorial Fund has been established in his name. The family would like to thank Unity Hospice of Green Bay for their wonderful support and care during this time. And also a special thank you to his caregiver, Cory, who helped so very much.
