    • RACINE – Edward A. Piette, 85, passed away at St. Mary's Medical Center on Easter Sunday, April 15, 2001.

      Ed was born in Appleton on October 7, 1915, son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (nee: Boehme) Piette. On November 24, 1949, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, he was united in marriage to Ruth M. Mutchie, who preceded him in death on January 12, 2000. He owned and operated Piette Realty for many years. Ed last worked for HUD, retiring in 1949. Ed was an active member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church having served in many of the parish ministries and committees including serving as an Eucharistic Minister and Trustee, past member of the Parish Council, the Administration and Building Committee, member and past President of the Holy Name Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society, St. Vincent DePaul Society Store, the Dawn Committee, co-chaired the 125th anniversary celebration of the parish, and volunteered for numerous bingo and dartball games. Ruth and Ed were named "Honorary Irish Persons of the Year" in 1998 by the congregation. He was also a member of the downtown Kiwanis Club and the Golden K's. He was dearly loved by his family and will be sadly missed.

      Survivors include his three children, Joanne R. (Greg) Rappl of Denver, Colorado, Julie (Larry) Kostroski of Green Bay, and Tom (Sandra) Piette of Green Bay; his seven grandchildren, Tim, Lisa and Paul Rappl, Ryan and Kristy Kostroski, Sarah Christenson, and Melissa (Todd) Bowman; his brother Donald (Yetty) Piette of Racine; his sisters, Betty Maurer, Dorothy Lees, both of Racine, and Marge (Hank) Goeden of Tarpon Springs, Florida; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Helen Staples of Racine and Florence (Curly) Gutsmiedel of Mauston; dear family friends, Elaine Marshalf and her family; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and many friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by his sister, Rosemary Schiestle.

      A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 1100 Erie Street, on Wednesday, April 18, 2001, at 7 p.m. with Reverend Paul A. Daniels officiating and Sister Carol Kottowitz and Deacon Russell Missureli assisting. Interment will be held at Calvary Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet with the family at the church on Wednesday from 5 until 6:45 p.m. Memorials to St. Patrick's Catholic Church have been suggested by the family.
