    • Mrs. Petersen, a longtime Hillsboro resident, died Monday, Aug. 4, 1986 at her home in Hillsboro. She was 82. Mrs. Petersen, the daughter of William and Wilhelmina (Kersten) Smith was born April 29, 1904 at Verboort.
She married Henry Petersen Nov. 6, 1928. He preceded her in death in 1980, after over 52 years of marriage.
Esther Petersen was stricken with polio at the age of 6, so her schooling at the Verboort School didn't begin until she was 9. She attended Banks High School for a year, completing her secondary education from St. Mary of the Valley. After high school, she graduated from Behnke-Walker Business College in Portland.
Her employment included work at Hillsboro's Perfection Bakery, the Hillsboro Argus, the finance department of the Washington County courthouse, checking at local berry fields and clerking on city and county election boards. The Petersens also owned and operated a restaurant.
Mrs. Petersen enjoyed her friends, fishing, flowers, sewing and clam digging. She was a member of St. Matthew Parish and Altar Society, and the American Association of Retired Persons.
