- SUN PRAIRIE - Elizabeth C. "Betty" Schmidt, age 89, went to eternal life on Friday, Nov. 5, 2004. She was born in Appleton, in 1914, the daughter of Gebhard and Margaret Kamps. After high school graduation, she worked as an accounting clerk for the Booth Oil Co. and later, Gloudeman's Department Store, both in Appleton. On Jan. 14, 1935, she married Victor P. Schmidt at St. Josephs Catholic Church, Appleton. She was an active member of the Christian Mother's Society. After her children were grown, she returned to the work force in the office of the Monte Alverno Retreat House. Following her retirement from there, she and Victor were foster parents for four babies. In the mid 1960s, she and Victor moved to Sun Prairie. Betty enjoyed sewing, crocheting, and playing bridge. She is survived by her husband of 69 years, Victor; a son, Paul (Bonnie) of Sun Prairie; two daughters, Peg (Don) Pitzen of Sheboygan, and Barbara Luebke of Indianapolis, Ind.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, John "Jake" of Appleton; and two sisters, Ruth Stier of Menasha, and Ethyl O'Brien of Appleton. She was preceded in death by her son, Daniel; her parents; four brothers; and two sisters. A visitation will be held in Sun Prairie at SACRED HEARTS CATHOLIC CHURCH, 227 Columbus St., on Tuesday, Nov. 9, 2004, from 10:30 a.m. until noon, after which a Mass of celebration of Betty's life will be held with Monsignor Duane Mollenberndt presiding. Burial will be at the St. Joseph's Cemetery in Appleton.
