- Leanne Marie (Smits) Olds, age 64, passed away suddenly on Friday, December 11th, 2015 after a brief illness. Leanne was born in Green Bay, WI to Leland and Betty (Kispert) Smits. She graduated from Preble High School in Green Bay and went on to graduate from University of Wisconsin- Madison in 1982. She continued to be part of the UW community until her retirement, where she worked as a media specialist in Molecular Biology. Leanne was an incredibly talented and gifted artist drawn to nature. After her retirement, she continued to illustrate several books about molecular biology. Just prior to her death, Leanne completed her final project, illustrations for the most recent book written by Prof. Sean Carroll, scheduled for publication in spring of 2016. Leanne was a brilliant illustrator and an even better water colorist. Leanne participated in several art exhibitions, events that showcased her amazing creations that were loved by family and friends alike.
Leanne is survived by her husband of 43 years, James Olds. She had two children, Kristen (Robyn) of Ankeny, IA and Matthew (Heather) Olds of Tacoma, WA. Her two granddaughters, Madison, age 6, and Harper, age 4, brought her incredible joy. She is also survived by her father, Leland, of Clintonville, WI, siblings Gary (Diane) Smits of Clintonville, Amy (Randy) VandenHeuvel, of Maryville, TN, and Patrick (Lisa) Smits of Green Bay, WI. She was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her mother, Betty.
In lieu of flowers, Leanne would be honored to have her memory live on through donations to the American Red Cross or a charity of your choosing. A memorial service is being planned for spring.
