- James B. Leedom, 86, Menasha, was born June 17, 1925, in Milwaukee, to the late Hampton and Maude (Christenson) Leedom. He spent his early school years at Milwaukee Country Day School followed by Shorewood High School. He then joined the U.S. Marines at the end of World War II. While in the Reserves, he started college at the University of Michigan and later transferred to Yale. He graduated from Yale with a B.S. in industrial engineering. He was then recalled to active duty during the Korean War. In 1972, he retired from the Marine Corp as a Lt. Colonel.
He went on to work in industrial sales that took him from the east coast to the west coast and finally back to Wisconsin where he worked for Cuttler Hammer. He was past Master of Sun Prairie Lodge F & AM, Past Commander of Appleton Commandry and member of Waverly Lodge #51 F & AM.
Jim will always be remembered for his ready wit and stories.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marilyn (O'Bright) Leedom, Menasha; brother, Jack (Marge) Leedom, Boca Raton; Fla.; a very special nephew, Steve (Kathy) Nolan, Kansas; God-child, Karen (Carl) Lindsay, Colo. He is further survived by Marilyn's family, Daune (Alice) O'Bright, Kathleen, Oelrich, Alan (Jill) O'Bright, Laura (John) Hinkens, Lynn (Tom) Stadler, Dave (Sharon) O'Bright, Ann (Ed) Van Asten, Steve (Kathy) O'Bright and many nieces, nephews and wonderful friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Hampton, and his first wife, Elizabeth (Faulkner) Leedom.
Funeral Services for Jim will be held at 4 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22, 2012, at the funeral home followed by Military Honors by VFW Post #38 of Appleton. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. on Wednesday. Interment will be in Restlawn Cemetery in Neenah. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Salvation Army of the Fox Cities (PO Box 1605 Appleton, WI 54912) or the WI Parkinson Association (945 N. 12th St. Suite 4602, Milwaukee, WI 53233).
