    • Clifford C. "Cliff" Bowers, 83, Green Bay, ended his earthly journey Tuesday, November 5, 2013, and joined his beloved wife, Ruth, in eternal life. A rosary was in his palm. The vigil of his passing was colored by his children and other loved ones at his bedside, supporting one-another with both tearful and laugh-filled memories of Cliff and the life of his family.

Cliff was born to Fred and Julia Bowers in Green Bay in 1930, as the youngest of 13 children. He is survived by two siblings: Pat (Jerry) Bowers and Arlene Larschied; and three sisters-in-law, Barb Londo, Sue (Dave) Nelson, and Shirley Bowers.

He is a graduate of Central Catholic High School in Green Bay where he excelled in its boxing program.

Cliff married Ruth Crooks on June 17, 1950, beginning a run of 59 years of devoted attention to her until Ruth's death in 2009. The couple raised eight children, including Cliff (Jane) Bowers, Dana (Larry) Peters, Len (Nancy) Bowers, Ted (Patti) Bowers, Dawn (Greg) Sweeney, Bob (Cheryl) Bowers, Chuck (Cheryl) Bowers and Sarah (Brad) Bowers-Pokorney.

Behind that generation are 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

His career at Proctor & Gamble included numerous operations and management positions spanning over 40 years.

The pillars of this gentle man's life were faith and family. Cliff and Ruth were decades-long members of St. Jude Parish. During that period, Cliff served in countless volunteer roles and developed lasting friendships with the parish staff and other active members. He was a Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #5382, and 4th Degree Marquette Assembly #1197 of the Knights of Columbus, a Eucharistic Minister, funeral meal volunteer, rose to open the church in the early hours and raised his hand for numerous other parish duties.

An endless list of selfless activities helped to define Cliff. He was the loudest voice from the sidelines and audience for his children's and grandchildren's activities. He donated his time to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, tackled chores and errands for neighbors, shared household duties with his wife, chauffeured many of his grandchildren to and from school and activities, donated dozens of gallons of blood to the American Red Cross and unceasingly deferred to the needs and interest of his family and friends over his own.

He enjoyed the Green Bay Packers, playing cards with friends and traveling. As a highlight in 1988 at the age of 58, he completed the Chicago Marathon accompanied by his sons, Ted and Cliff. Mostly, though, he enjoyed time with family at picnics, parties, and countless activities which served as priorities in their lives.

Friends and family may visit Blaney Funeral Home, 1521 Shawano Ave., from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday (TONIGHT). At 7 p.m. a Knights of Columbus 4th Degree Memorial Service with the Marquette Assembly #1197 will be held. A Parish Wake Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. Friends may also call from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Annunciation Catholic Church, 401 Gray St. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at the church with Rev. Paul Demuth officiating. Entombment will be in Allouez Chapel Mausoleum. To send online condolences, please go to www.BlaneyFuneralHome.com.

The family extends its sincere thanks to Dr. Francis Lee and Dr. James Ebben of Bellin Health, Eve Boyea and the caring staff of Wyndemere Estate, and Unity Hospice for their individual and collective support on behalf of Cliff.
