      For Pete Mischler, boys' soccer
at Kaukauna High School was a matterofgive and take.
As coach, he gave a lot to help the program get going and make progress. But Mischler took a lot out of it because
he loved his players and soccer.
Mischler, 57, who coached boys' soccer with the Ghosts for four seasons, died of a heart attack early this morning.
This spring, he also was assisting coach Tom Lemke with the Kaukauna girls' team.
      "Shocked. I am just shocked,"
      said Kaukauna athletic director
Jerry Brien. "Pete had a special way with the kids he dealt with, specifically, in the boys'soccerprogram."
Brien said coaching·soccer gave Mischler a lot of pleasure.
"He just had this sense of fairness about him as coach," Brien said. "He had an understanding
of kids, and he was very close to all the athletes he coached."
Mischler, a farmer, was a 1956 graduate of Kaukauna High School. Besides high school soccer, he was active in the area's summer soccer program.
"His death leav€s a big gap to fill," Brien said. "He just did so many little things behind the scenes. You just don't replace
      a coach like Pete."
