- Verhagen, Dorothy (Van Zeeland) 1997 Appleton Post Crescent dated 10/29/97; Mrs. Ervin Verhagen, Dorothy van Zeeland, 97 Joyce St., Kaukauna, age 75, died Tuesday, October 28th, 1997 at her home following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer,. She was born March 25th, 1922 in Appleton, the daughter of the late Henry and Margaret (Biese) VanZealand. Dot was a volunteer for St. Vincent de Paul. She enjoyed flower gardening, knitting and making afghans and slippers for her family. She also loved fishing and spending time up north for colorrama, Dot was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, a past treasurer of the Countryside Thursday ladies Golf Team and the Catholic Order of Foresters. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Ervin; six daughters and sons in law: Sandra and Chuck Jacobi, of Fort Myers Florida; Mary and Len Hawley, of Crystal Lake Ill.; Barb and Leo Schuh, of Little Chute; Joyce and Ray Schuh, of Little Chute; Judy and Al Zierler, of Little Chute; Coleen and Tom Geske, of Kaukauna; three sons and daughters in law: Keith and Lynn Verhagen, of Combined Locks: Mark and Cindy Verhagen of Little Chute: Bruce and Julie Verhagen of Little Chute. She enjoyed spending time with her 23 grandchildren: Brian (Maria), Rob and Dave Hawley: Amy (Gerry) Weyenberg, Val (Cole) Ziegelbauer, Todd Verhagen, Brad (Michele), Scott and Matt Hawley; Bill, Tonya, and Jody Schuh, Rick and Pat Schuh; David and Doug Verhagen, Mike and Ben Verhagen, Michelle, Kathy and Kelly Zierler, Christy and Chad Geske; 3 step grandchildren Gary (Andrea), Greg and Guy (fiancee Shannon) Jacobi, six great-grandchildren Sarah and Matthew Hawley, Gary Lobermeier Kendra and Ryan Weyenberg, Alexi Verhagen; 3 step great-grandchildren Jason, Erin and Joshua Jacobi, a brother and sister in law Robert and Jan Van Zeeland of Raymond, Maine; two sisters and brothers in law, Eunice Reider, of Kimberly; Dolores and Marv Vandenberg, of Mesa Arizona, Marv and Rose Schumacher, of DePere. She is also survived by her husband's sisters and brothers Rosemary Kramer, of Kaukauna, Johanna Fink of Algoma; Gene and Rita Verhagen, of Kaukauna; Jerry Verhagen, of Waupaca, and many special relatives and friends. She is preceded by her parents, her mother and father in law, Louis and Catherine Verhagen, a son David, three sisters, Ardell and Margaret Ann Van Zeeland and Betsy Schumacher; a brother and sister in law Gene and Ann Van Zeeland; four brothers in law: Mel Verhagen, Steve Verhagen, Clarence Fink, and Thomas Reider, two sisters in law: Regina (Wally) Swanningson, and Kathy Verhagen. The mass of resurrection will be at 4:00 p.m. Thursday October 30, 1997 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna, with Father Dave Hoffman officiating. Burial will be in Holy Cross cemetery, Kaukauna Special thanks to Dr. Swanson and staff, Hospice and V.N.A., Mary Lawrence, Katie Bennett, neighbors and friends for all their care and support.
