- Grace E. Garvey, age 80, died peacefully on Monday, August 29, 2011 surrounded by love with her family by her side. She was born April 5, 1931, to the late Henry and Matilda (Van Vreede) Biese in Kaukauna, WI. She married Robert "Buzz" Garvey on June 15, 1949, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Kaukauna. Grace and Buzz operated a dairy farm from 1949 until 1976 in Freedom and later owned Buzz's Bowl in Freedom from 1971 until they sold it in 1986. Mom enjoyed her many years at the Lee Lake cottage with family and friends, playing sheepshead as much as Buzz did, enjoyed knitting, especially her blankets for each of her grand children and great grand children, and her many travels and social outings with her special friends.
She is survived by her nine children, 24 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren (and counting): Al (Joyce) Garvey of Freedom and their two daughters, Jodi (Greg) Hofacker and their three children, Colin, Caden and Carson, and Jennifer (Todd) Greiner and their four children, Sage, Gavin, Laken, and Quinn; Lee (Linda) Garvey of Freedom and their three children, Gina (Jason) Rose and their two daughters, Kaylie and Kirsten, Nate (Carla) Garvey and baby girl expected in October, and Katie (Mike) Dercks and their children Colton and Avery; Bob (Karen) Garvey of Townsend, WI, and their three children Bobbi (Rod) Van Eperen and their two sons, Owen and Ethan, Karly (Ben) Ploederl and their son Cooper and baby boy expected in November, Brittany (and fianc? Andy Bruno) Garvey; Dave (Joanna) Garvey of Freedom and their two children, Alyssa and Samantha; Cheryl (Gary) Hooyman of Shiocton and their three children, Trisha (Chad) Reader and their four children, Trevor, Alexia, Logan, and Dylan, Tami Hooyman (special friend Jon Fietsch) and Scott (Melissa) Hooyman and their son Chase; Jeff and Sue Garvey of Freedom and their three children, Craig (Jessalyn) Garvey, Briana and Kalyn; Peggy (Bill) Gonnering of Freedom and their three children, Adam (Amber) Gonnering and their daughter Evelyne (born August 29, 2011, one angel came into the world as one left), Megan (Nick) Van Handel and Travis (special friend Danielle Rogers) Gonnering; Laurie (Jay) Vande Wettering of Freedom and their two children, Kyle Vande Wettering and Angie (Ryan) Polenz and their two sons Aidan and Declan, Patrick (Beth) Garvey and children, Chloe Garvey, Desiree and Shawn Kreischer. She is further survived by her brother Bob Biese; three sisters in law, Dorothy Biese, Rosemary Garvey, and Linda Garvey; two God children, Tim Garvey and Dan Biese; and many friends, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Buzz in 2006, her parents Henry and Matilda Biese , her mother and father in law, Patrick and Margaret (Murphy) Garvey, and family members; Melvin Biese, Beatrice Van Eperen, Therese and Eugene Van Deurzen, Rosemary and Jack Mulry, and in laws Bill Garvey, Jim Garvey, Mike and Florence Garvey, Irene and Orville Appleton.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2011, at ST. NICHOLAS CATHOLIC CHURCH, Freedom with Fr. Dave Hoffman officiating. Friends will be received at church on Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of service. Entombment will take place at Highland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund is being established. The Boettcher Family Funeral Home, Kaukauna is assisting the family. 766-2099.
