George Van Dyke - life long resident, Forest Grove age 87 died January 5, 1991 at his home, of causes related to age. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated this morning, at Visitation Roman Catholic Church in Verboort. Rev. Frank Walsh and the Rev. (retired) James Harris officating. Interment followed at the Visitation Cemetery in Verboort.Mr. Van Dyke was born November 12, 1903 in Verboort, a son of Walter and Margaret (Joosten) Van Dyke. He was educated at Visitation School and on December 28, 1928 he married Ethel Kummer in Forest Grove. Mrs. Van Dyke preceded her husband in death on November 17, 1983. Mr. Van Dyke lived on the family property his entire life. He built a home in 1932 across from the family home and had lived there since. He worked at BirdsEye Cannery for 37 years and retired in 1954 as assistant manager. He was member of Visitation Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus.
Survivors include his four sons; Wayne of Mt. Angel, Marion Co. Gene of Forest Grove, James of Rock Creek, Washington Co., David of Chehalis, Washington Co. A daughter; Mrs. Charles (Joanne) Scabery of Portland, Multnomah Co., 19 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren. Also surviving are four brothers; Clarence of Forest Grove, Ralph of Forest Grove, Howard of Cornelius, Raymond of Gales Creek, Washington Co. and 6 sisters; Minnie Holzmeyer, of Forest Grove, Cecilia Duyck, of Roy, Was. Co. Loretta Vanderzanden of Roy, Was. Co. Christine Sahlfield of Hillsboro, Florence Waibel of Hillsboro, Leona Puncochar of Hillsboro.
