- Van Handel, Mary E.
86, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2015, at Brewster Village, Appleton. She was born on June 21, 1929 to the late Daniel and Catherine (Biese) Ferguson in the Town of Holland, WI. Mary was a devoted wife to her husband Clarence for 66 years whom she married on May 1, 1948 at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Kaukauna. They farmed for 20+ years and she worked for a toy factory. Mary was a member of St. Nicholas Catholic Church and the Catholic Foresters. She enjoyed baking, camping, square dancing and playing cards, especially sheephead.
She is survived by 8 children: Jim (Barb) Van Handel, Sandy (Terry) Lillie, Kathy (Mike) Glasheen, Gary (Brenda) Van Handel, Cindy (Ronnie) Hermus, Ron (Carolee Moe) Van Handel, Lisa (Tom) Vanden Langdenberg and Greg (Laurie) Van Handel; 13 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren;
Mary was preceded in death by her husband Clarence in April; parents, three brothers: Donald, Bill and Cyril; a sister Bertilla; four grandchildren: Matthew, Farah, Amanda and Michaela.
A Mass of Resurrection will be held at 11:30AM, Thursday, July 23, 2015 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church, Freedom with Rev. Walter Stumpf officiating. Friends may visit the family from 9:30-11:30AM directly at church on Thursday. Burial will be at St. Nicholas Catholic Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established.
The family extends a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Brewster Village for the excellent and compassionate care shown to Mary and her family.
